“Thai cooking is a paradox,” writes Australian restaurateur David Thompson in his comprehensive and thus aptly named Thai Food. “It uses robustly flavored ingredients–garlic, shrimp paste, chilies –and yet when they are melded during cooking they arrive at a sophisticated and often subtle elegance.” Actually, what he has said makes some sense about Thai Food.

Ideally, eating Thai food is a communal affair involving two or more people. Generally, the greater the number of diners, the greater the number of dishes ordered. It has been accepted as a rule that two diners order three dishes in addition to their own individual plates of steamed rice, three diners four dishes, and so on. Thai food is eaten with a fork and spoon. Even single dish meals such as fried rice with pork, or steamed rice topped with roasted duck, are served in bite-sized slices or chunks obviating the need for a knife. The spoon is used to convey food to the mouth. Chopsticks are used rarely, primarily for the consumption of noodle soups. The fork, held in the left hand, is used to push food into the spoon. However, it is common practice for Thais and hill tribe peoples in the North and Northeast to eat sticky rice with their right hands by making it into balls that are dipped into side dishes and eaten. Thai-Muslims also frequently eat meals with only their right hands.

Much of what is known about Thai food evolved in the Central region. Rice, fish, and vegetables, flavored with garlic, black pepper, and fish sauce, along with an abundance of fresh fruit, comprised the basic diet of Sukhothai. Instead of a single main course with side dishes found in Western cuisine, a Thai full meal typically consists of either a single dish or rice with many complementary dishes served concurrently.

Thai food cooked with many ingredients aboard, for example, the fiery chili pepper was introduced, along with the equally popular coriander, lime and tomato, from their native South America by the Portuguese. Other influences came from India, Japan, Persia, and especially China. In fact, Thai cuisine is essentially a marriage of centuries-old Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely. Originally, Thai cooking reflected the characteristics of a waterborne lifestyle. The characteristics of Thai food depend on who cooks it, for whom it is cooked, for what occasion, and where it is cooked to suit all palates. Whether chili-hot or comparatively bland, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish.

It is well known that Thai food is world renowned for its rich variety. Whether mild or spicy, sweet or sour, the tantalizing aromas of the cuisine are part of the fascinating cultural life of Thailand. If you have an opportunity to come to Thailand, never forget to have a taste of the local food there. When you are eating the Thai food, you can have a good touch of the real Thai people and their lives.

Korean people are bright enough, because they borrow a lot of cooking skills from other Asian countries instead of confining themselves in their own cooking culture. In many aspects Korean food is a combination of Japanese and Chinese techniques in preparing food. If compared to Japanese cuisine, it relies less on fish and seafood; if compared to Chinese, it relies less on oil. However, it does not mean there is no good Korean food.

For centuries, Korean people have eaten the products of the seas, fields, and mountains. The features of Korean peninsula and a distinguish climate makes a more abundant Korean food. Korean foods are very special, exotic, and particular. The most distinguishing feature of the Korean food is spicy. The basic seasonings-red pepper, green onion, soy sauce, bean paste, garlic, ginger, sesame, mustard, vinegar have been combined in various ways to enhance Korean foods.

Korean food has various side dishes. Favorite side dishes are beantaste soup, broiled beef, fish, cabbage “kimchi”, and steamed vegetables. “The full course Korean meal “is called “Hanjoungshik”. It is composed of grilled fish, steamed short ribs, and other meat and vegetable dishes with steamed rice, soup, and “kimchi”. Koreans also like meat dishes. “Pulgoki” is one of the famous dishes to Westerners, which is generally called “Korean barbecue”.

Vegetable dish is also popular in Korea. Koreans traditionally eat more vegetables with rice in main meal than meats and the vegetable dishes are various in kinds and tastes. However, if you have eaten Korean food, you must have the impression that most peculiar about Korean food is its way of pickling instead of cooking vegetables. Koreans are likely to eat pickled vegetables every day of the year, commonly for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In the cold Korean winter kimchi can last for many months. Almost all available vegetables can be pickled but the most common in Korea are cabbage, turnip, and cucumber. The seasoning is chili, garlic, onion, ginger, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and salt. During the fermenting process the vegetables loose much of their natural flavor and instead adopt the flavor of the seasoning. The difference in texture, however, is enhanced.
In fact, pairing wine with Korean food has long felt like a gamble. The many layers of ingredients and flavors featured in one dish and the simultaneous serving of multiple dishes can make pairing wine with Korean food overly complicated and risky. If you stay in Korea for a long time, you will learn for sure a few key tips can make wine pairings with Korean food easy, mutually enhancing both the wine and the meal. Balance is the basic consideration when pairing wine with Korean food. As a rule, wine with heavy alcohol or tannins will block the rich flavors of most Korean food. Foods that are spicy are enhanced by a wine with very little alcohol; otherwise, the heat from the alcohol will intensify the heat sensation from the food.

It is not easy to introduce the civilization of Chinese Food in a short message, because there are more than 56 folks inside the Mainland China, and the large area causes different food and dining habits among difference districts.

Generally speaking, the old China was developed in a faming society. As a result, the main Chinese food you should know is rice, and actually rice was the first grain that was farmed in China. There is archaeological evidence of rice farming along the Yang-tse River as early as about 5000 BC. At that time, people cooked rice by boiling it in water just like the way they do today. Instead of rice, Chinese in northern China gathered wild millet and sorghum. These were the main foods of China - rice, millet, sorghum, and wheat. In northern China, people mostly ate millet, wheat, and sorghum. In the southern part of China, rice is the most common food..

There are so many traditional and special Chinese foods, according to the different cultural backgrounds, districts, religions, and festivals. The famous division is by district, there are styles of Guangdong, Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, and so on. In general, there is a big difference about the diets between Northern and Southern China, that is, the dishes made by Northern cooks are in heavier taste and those are comparably light in Southern Chefs’ recipes. Sometimes, it is tasty as sweet and fresh in Southern Chinese food. In the Northern and Western Provinces of China, the diets are made in hot and spicy for preventing diseases caused by humidity and cold.
As China’s capital, Beijing has a great variety of local Chinese food coming from different regions of china. It can offer you many ways to satisfy your craving for whatever kind of food you like. You can enjoy dishes from all over the world, no matter what you want. If you can not afford to eat food in the big restaurants, you can change the places of eating. The cheapest way to eat Chinese foodin China is buying food which is being cooked on the sidewalks. You can choose between green vegetables, tofu, meat, fish and various other exotic animals like scorpions, starfishes and silkworms all neatly arranged on a skewer. Many people in China eat out at the food stalls on the sidewalks as they don’t have much money and want to have a quick and filling meal. Food cooked in these kind places does not mean poor quality or dull taste. In fact, if you really want to have a good taste of Chinese food, small stands by the roadside in the best place you should go.

A delightful and delicious meal creates happiness, harmony, mental and physical well-being. Since there is an enormous variety of Chinese food that differs greatly from region to region, you will find the most interesting thing about Chinese traveling in China is to try out different food. You will find how different from what you have known from the fast food stand and how enjoyable it will be if you just release yourself from traditional food paradigm.

Everyone has a favorite cuisine - or a food they feel particularly passionate about. For my husband and me it is Asian food. And it seems we are not alone in our obsession with dishes from eastern cultures - Asian food rates as one of many westerners` favorite choices of food.

Although many Asian cultures share some similar traditions and there is some overlap, the various cultures of Asia each developed their own ethnic cuisine through the interaction of history, environment, and culture. The first Asian food is known as the southwest style that includes cuisines from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Burma. Rooting in Persian-Arabian civilization, they like eating a kind of flat bread along with mutton, kebabs. In addition, the use of hot peppers, black pepper, cloves, and other strong spices also becomes a staple in this dietary culture. The second major Asian food is the northeast tradition, comprising China, Korea, and Japan. This tradition emphasizes using fats, oils, and sauces in cooking. In addition, Asian people also use food as medicines to promote a healthy life. In addition, food became associated with many religious traditions as well, as many northeast Asian cultures often use food as symbolic offerings to worship their ancestors. Finally, the third major dietary culture of Asia is the southeast style, including Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brune whose emphasis is on aromatic and lightly-prepared foods, using a delicate balance of quick stir-frying, steaming, supplemented with discrete spices and seasonings, including citrus juices and herbs such as basil, cilantro, and mint.

One of my favorite Asian foods is tofu. In fact, soy is a very important component in the diet of Asian countries because soy foods provide a main source of protein in the daily diet. Soy foods such as tofu, miso and tempeh can be easily found in supermarkets. Soy contains elements, which are compounds that can stop the mutation of regular cells into cancer cells. Soy foods also lower cholesterol and are a good source of iron. Other popular soy products in the food market are soy milk, tofu pizza and hot dogs.

Foods in different countries nowadays are shared by people all around the world so does Asian food. Perhaps one of the reasons many people enjoy Asian food so much is that they become more adventurous with food choices, not constrained by history or tradition. When we say we love Asian food, what we actually mean is that we love certain flavors or styles of cooking, rather than any particular country’s cuisine. What is more, Asian food has been adapted to suit different tastes of people from the whole world. In all, since we are now living in the same earth village, people from all over the world can share the local food in this small planet.

What is “American food”? Except for Thanksgiving turkey, it is hard to find a typically American food. To many people, typical American food is hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken and pizza. In restaurants, you can easily find hamburger, steak, ribs with a little rice and a piece of bread, because their live style are so fast.

Americans living at a fast pace often just “grab a quick bite” when they are choosing their favorite American food. That is why fast food is very popular and available all over the USA. In fact, there are a wide variety of fast food restaurants serving all sorts of fast food from American style hamburgers, hot dogs and fried chicken to Italian pizza, Mexican tacos, Greek Gyros and Chinese egg rolls. Some of the fast food can be quite delicious; what is more, it is always inexpensive. Frankly speaking, it is no deny that these fast food restaurant chains may lack interesting variety, but you can usually be assured of good service, consistent quality and clean facilities. In many people’s eyes, fast food is all but American food.

It’s true that Americans do eat those things. However, these are not the only kind of vittles you can find in the list of American food. In some cases, Americans have adopted foods from other countries as favorites. As we know, the United States is a land of immigrants. When people move to America, they bring their cooking styles with them. That’s why you can find almost every kind of ethnic food in America. Americans love Italian pizza, Mexican tacos and Chinese egg rolls. And then there is truly American food, invented on U.S. ground by Americans, like Toll House cookies, corn dogs, cornbread, doughnuts, potato chips, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Each country has its own local food in different regions throughout the whole nation, so is America. The U.S.A has several distinct regions. Each region boasts its own special style of American food. Regional American food varies from state to state and is highly influenced by the types of ingredients locally available, as well as the cultural background of the people that settled in the area. If you visit the South, you will for sure enjoy the country-style cooking. And if you take a trip to New England, you will sample savory seafood dishes. Traveling through the Midwest, the breadbasket of the nation, you will have a taste for delicious baked goods.

Like Americans who is not willing to stay behind, American food is also trying to follow the fashion. For many Americans, the good taste is no longer the only thing they want to pursue at the time of choosing food. “You are what you eat.” Nutrition experts often use this saying to promote better eating habits. Nowadays, healthy American food is very popular in the USA. Everyone seems to be dieting and trying to lose weight. As a result, American food will be healthier in the future.
